In honor of Earth Day, we have curated a selection of introspective journal prompts.

Please take a moment this April to channel the energy of this beautiful planet and praise the wonder and awe all around us. We encourage you to share your insights in the comments.

A Note:

Your Boundless Guides recommend these journal prompts be completed in the presence of Mother Nature herself. Make it a date! Bring a blanket, journal and pen. Go for a stroll. Meditate. Stick your toes in the grass to feel your connection to the earth. Let it speak through you!

  1. With pen and paper, sketch your rendition of the clouds above you. What do you see?

  2. Through your eyes, how does your community treat Mother Nature? What could be improved upon? How could you facilitate education and awareness?

  3. Find the tallest tree from your current vantage point and imagine for a moment you were supported upon the highest branch. Use your imagination to describe the sensations you feel. What can you see? Are you swaying? Is the breeze cool and strong? Perhaps you envision you are a bug or a bird in this daydream. What would your perception be in this case?

  4. Close your eyes. Describe your current state. Is there a gentle breeze? Where on your body does it graze? What does it feel like? Can you hear birds? Where are they and what do you imagine they are doing? Are you sitting on a rock or the grass? Describe the feel of the surface beneath you…

  5. Next time you take a stroll through nature, do so with complete presence. Avoid distractions like your cell phone or ear buds. Attempt to settle your mind. Observe Mother Nature around you. What do you notice? Is there wisdom she passes along to you? Perhaps seeing new blooms takes your mind along the path of regeneration and rebirth. Does this apply to your life and its current state? This is a gift from nature. Thank her for this wisdom and make note of your discoveries.

  6. Place your bare feet on the ground. Close your eyes and focus on your breath. After a few quiet moments, imagine roots descending from your feet and entering the earth. Your roots pull up the nutrients from the ground. This energy radiates throughout your body. What does this energy share with you? Allow your intuition to speak.

  7. Earth, air, fire, water: Mother Nature’s elements. Ruminate on the energies behind each element. How do they apply to your character? What strengths or qualities can you pull from these elements?

  8. What creatures inhabit your ecosystem? Describe the characteristics of these fellow animals. What are their strengths? How can you apply these to your life? Use this association as a reminder every time you see one of these animals. Consider it a sign from Mother Nature to embrace this power.

  9. Imagine your favorite childhood memories of nature. Was there a favorite trip? A place you loved? What was the impact of this sacred space on your child mind? How do you feel when you look back at these memories? How did this location make you feel as a child? What was special about it?

  10. Take a walk in nature with a basket or bag. Collet trinkets from the earth: acorns, pebbles, flowers, leaves, branches… Choose anything that calls to you. Find a flat surface and create a grid or mandala with your found treasures. Perhaps this grid forms a circle, a pattern or a cross. Can you assign symbolic representation to each object? You could use this practice as a manifestation tool- to call your dreams into your life or to put positive energies out into the universe.
